Fees are for personal accounts. An empty cell means the bank’s pages we checked list no incoming fee for that kind of wire. Discover, Global Credit Union and Security Service FCU are left out: their pages list no incoming fee for either kind of wire.
How to pay less to receive a wire
- Check your account tier. Bank of America, Citibank, Citizens, M&T Bank and Bank OZK waive or refund the incoming fee on their premium or relationship accounts.
- Ask where the wire comes from. KeyBank and U.S. Bank charge less, or nothing, when the wire comes from another account at the same bank, and Chase charges $0 for a wire sent with a Chase banker or online at Chase.
- Ask for US dollars on a wire from abroad. Your bank converts a foreign currency wire at its own rate, and intermediary banks can take charges out of the amount; Ally says so even though it charges $0 itself.
Warning
If someone sends you a wire and then asks you to send part of it back, or to forward it, check with your bank that the money has really arrived and cleared first. A screenshot or an email is not proof of a wire.
The details to give the sender and how fast the money must reach you are in how to receive a wire transfer. When a wire goes out depends on the sender’s wire transfer cutoff time. What sending abroad costs is in international wire transfer fees, and every fee here comes from our bank list. More tables: bank comparison tables.
