Short answer
How long PayPal takes to transfer to a bank depends on the speed you pick. A standard transfer to a bank account typically arrives within 1 business day but can take 1–3 business days, with no fee. An Instant Transfer typically arrives within minutes, for a fee. Transfers started after 7:00 PM ET, on a weekend or on a holiday may take an extra day.

Standard or Instant: what changes
PayPal offers two speeds when you move your balance to a bank. Standard is free and counts business days, so a weekend or holiday adds time. Instant costs a fee and typically arrives within minutes. If an Instant Transfer has not arrived after 30 minutes, PayPal says to contact your bank.

How to transfer from PayPal to your bank
- On the website, go to Wallet, select Transfer Money, then Transfer to your bank.
- In the app, tap your PayPal balance, then Transfer, then Transfer to bank.
- Choose the amount and the speed: in minutes (Instant, fee) or in 1-3 days (standard, free).
- Review the details and confirm.

Why a transfer can take longer
- Timing. PayPal says a transfer started after 7:00 PM ET, on a weekend or on a holiday may take an extra day.
- Review. Some transfers go through an automated review. PayPal says most reviews clear within 24 hours and can take up to 72 hours.
- Bank rejection. If your bank rejects the transfer, PayPal says it notifies you within a week and returns the money to your balance minus any applicable return fees.

Getting a paper check instead
PayPal can mail a check to your address. It says checks are mailed within 10 business days, the minimum amount is $1.51, a fee applies and checks cannot go to a P.O. box.
