Independence Day falls on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Under the Federal Reserve’s published holiday schedule, the Reserve Banks do not close on Friday, July 3 in that case: they stay open, so Friday is a normal business day for Fed-run payment services.

Why it matters
A holiday that lands on a weekday usually adds a day to ACH and wire timing. This year it does not: July 3 counts as a business day for the Fed, and the holiday itself falls on a Saturday. Your own bank’s branch hours and cutoff times on July 3 are set by the bank, so check its notice before you rely on a Friday afternoon transfer.
The Fed’s page also notes the opposite rule: when a holiday falls on a Sunday, Reserve Banks close the following Monday.
What to do
- Send a wire or ACH payment early on Friday, July 3, if it must settle before the weekend.
- A standard ACH credit sent after your bank’s Friday cutoff moves with the next business day, Monday, July 6. See how long ACH takes and how long wire transfers take.
- For person-to-person payments over the weekend, see how long Zelle takes.
