Federal Reserve Financial Services said on August 27, 2026 that it has moved the Fedwire Funds Service release planned for November 2026 to November 2027. The move follows Swift’s decision the same day to delay its November 2026 Standards Release, after the industry asked for more time to prepare for the removal of the unstructured postal address format.

Why it matters
Fedwire carries US bank wires. An “unstructured” address is a free-text block; a structured one puts street, city, postal code and country in separate fields. Payment messages are moving toward the structured form, and banks prepare by changing their systems and, in time, the forms customers fill in.
For people sending wires, the delay means one more year before this Fedwire release. It does not mean nothing changes: the Fed tells banks to keep preparing for the removal of the unstructured format.
What to do
- Keep giving your bank the recipient’s full address: street, city, postal code and country as separate items.
- If your bank’s wire form asks for separate address fields, fill every one.
- Watch for the Fed’s scope details this fall and any notice from your bank about new wire form fields.
