Wells Fargo says wire routing numbers differ from the numbers used for checking and savings deposits, so do not copy the number from a check or direct deposit form for a wire. Its routing number page gives the same wire number, 121000248, and SWIFT code. Wells Fargo does not limit how much you can receive by wire, though the sender’s bank may cap what it sends.

A wire arriving in a foreign currency is converted into US dollars at Wells Fargo’s exchange rate without prior notice; Wells Fargo says that rate includes a markup. If a foreign sender’s bank asks for intermediary bank details, Wells Fargo points to its foreign currency incoming wire instructions.

The fee schedule effective July 28, 2026, which Wells Fargo calls part of your account contract, sets the digital wire at $30, and the Digital Wires page says the same; the Digital Wires FAQs still show $25, the earlier figure. Premier Checking waives the outgoing wire fee without limit. A standing transfer order costs $25 each and a drawdown $15 each. Other banks along the way may charge their own fees, and Wells Fargo says it makes money on the exchange rate whenever it converts currency, even when the wire fee is waived.

You must have a current US residence to send a digital wire; customers in US territories or other countries cannot send one online and can go to a branch. Wells Fargo sets a daily and a rolling 30-day digital wire limit for each customer, based on account and banking history and the recipient. To send more than your limit, you visit a branch.

Canceling a Wells Fargo wire

Warning

You can cancel a digital wire only while its status is Scheduled, from the confirmation page, the wire details page or the Activity section. Once it is Pending, it can no longer be canceled. A wire Under review may still be canceled by calling 877-499-6920. A wire the recipient’s bank does not accept comes back to your account, possibly minus other banks’ fees, and a foreign currency wire may come back as fewer dollars after conversion.
