Bank of America Zelle limits depend on enrollment age and the recipient, not just your account balance.

For consumer accounts, Bank of America’s agreement effective October 19, 2026 lists daily limits of $1,000 during the first 30 days of Zelle enrollment, $2,000 on days 31–60 and $3,500 after 60 days. A $20,000 monthly limit and transaction-count caps also apply. Recipient-specific restrictions can make the amount available for a particular payment lower.

These are consumer-account limits. Small-business limits use a different schedule. Private Bank and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management customers may have higher limits and should consult their advisor. Do not apply another customer’s exception to your account.

Two limits apply to the same payment

Your overall sending limit is only one part of the check. Bank of America also restricts transfers to recipients who are not enrolled or have just been added.

The recipient restriction reduces what you can send that person even if your overall daily limit is higher. Both sets of restrictions apply.

For example, a consumer enrolled for more than 60 days has the published $3,500 overall daily limit. A recipient added that day still has the $2,000 recipient limit. This is an illustration of the two published rules, not a promise that a particular transaction will be approved.

Bank of America says security-related reductions can also apply. A balance larger than the limit does not increase the limit. Check the amount available when setting up the payment.

When do daily and monthly limits reset?

Daily limits use calendar days and reset at midnight Eastern Time. Monthly limits use calendar months and reset at midnight Eastern Time on the first day of each month.

The agreement says sending limits apply in aggregate across all your Bank of America accounts enrolled with the service. Moving between those accounts is not a way to obtain a separate Zelle allowance.

Dollar and frequency restrictions are separate. A customer can have dollar capacity remaining and still be prevented from sending another transfer after reaching a transaction-count limit.

The bank says it may temporarily permit a higher limit for a specified recipient based on transaction history and risk factors. An exception may appear in online or mobile banking when you set up a transfer. It does not increase the overall limits or guarantee another exception later.

Enrollment and receiving money

Use the bank’s Zelle service through its own online or mobile banking. Enrollment uses an email address or eligible U.S. mobile number. The agreement excludes landline, Google Voice and Voice over Internet Protocol numbers.

Bank of America states that there are no receiving limits for Zelle transfers. That does not make the sender’s transfer unlimited: their sending institution’s rules still matter.

If you change or give up the enrolled email address or mobile number, notify the bank. Keeping the contact detail current matters because it identifies where another person sends money.

For the wider service explanation, read what is Zelle. For the bank’s other transfer information, see Bank of America.

Why a payment can be pending

Most transfers between enrolled users occur within minutes once processing starts, according to Bank of America’s agreement. The bank may need extra time to verify identities or transfer details, or may delay or block a payment for fraud prevention or regulatory reasons.

A pending transfer is therefore not necessarily a limit problem. Check the payment’s Activity entry and the recipient’s enrollment rather than immediately sending a second payment.

If the recipient has not enrolled using the email address or mobile number you paid, the bank says the payment can be canceled while pending for that reason. If the recipient does not enroll within 14 days, the payment is canceled.

If the recipient is already enrolled and processing has begun, the payment generally cannot be canceled. Bank of America recommends sending only to people you know and trust. Read Zelle payment pending and can you cancel a Zelle payment for those separate situations.

What to do when a payment exceeds the limit

Check enrollment age, how much you have already sent that calendar day and month, transaction counts and the recipient-specific restriction. Read the limit or error shown in the bank’s app.

If the amount must move on a particular date, ask the bank about the available transfer methods and their fees and timing. Do not assume that a wire, ACH transfer and Zelle payment have interchangeable rules. This page’s figures apply to Zelle.

Contact Bank of America through its official signed-in support or the contact details on its own website if the displayed limit or payment status needs clarification. Never give a recovery service access to your bank account.

The October 19, 2026 agreement

Bank of America’s updated Online Banking Service Agreement took effect on October 19, 2026. Its consumer Zelle schedule is the same as in the August 27 agreement: the daily, monthly and recipient limits above, a $1 minimum, no receiving limit and resets at 12:00 AM ET. One change concerns accounts you hold at other banks: apart from Bill Pay funded from such an External Account, Bank of America says it does not investigate errors on electronic transactions that appear on the other bank’s statement, so raise those with that bank.
