Domestic wire details

To send a domestic wire, Bank of America asks for the recipient’s name and address, account number and the receiving bank’s wire routing number. Confirm the routing number with the recipient. The bank warns that a wire routing number may differ from the number used for ACH.

Detail What to use
Recipient Legal name and address
Receiving account Full account number
Bank identifier Wire routing number (ABA), confirmed with the recipient
Cutoff 5:00 p.m. Eastern
Typical arrival Same business day when processed before cutoff

A request can be delayed, rejected, returned or misdirected when the routing or account number is wrong. Review the confirmation before authorizing it.

International wire details

An international wire needs the recipient’s name and address, account number or IBAN, and the receiving bank’s SWIFT/BIC. Some countries need additional identifiers such as a Canadian transit code, India’s IFSC or Mexico’s CLABE.

You can send US dollars or a supported foreign currency. Bank of America publishes no wire transfer fee for an outbound foreign-currency wire, but its exchange rate includes a markup. A US-dollar international wire has a $45 fee. The receiving bank, intermediary banks and foreign taxes can change the final amount.

The bank says international funds typically arrive in one to five business days. Currency choice, receiving-bank processing, local holidays and intermediary banks can extend that window.

How to send the wire

  1. Sign in to the Bank of America app or Online Banking.
  2. Open Pay & Transfer and choose the wire-transfer option.
  3. Add the recipient and the bank identifiers required for the destination.
  4. Choose US dollars or foreign currency for an international wire.
  5. Review the transfer fee, exchange rate, recipient amount and arrival estimate.
  6. Save the receipt and confirmation code.

Bank of America may require a US mobile number, PIN or USB security key. The daily limit and any account-specific fee appear in the signed-in flow.

Receiving a wire into Bank of America

For a domestic or international incoming wire, give the sender your account number and the instructions Bank of America publishes for your receiving account. The common wire routing number is 026009593.

For international wires, the official page lists SWIFT details and bank addresses for the relevant currency and route. Use the exact instruction shown by the bank rather than an old screenshot or a third-party list.

Bank of America says domestic incoming wires are typically credited the same business day and international incoming wires in one to two business days. An incoming wire may incur a $15 fee depending on the account. Compare this with incoming wire transfer fees by bank.

Cancellation and error rights

A domestic wire may become final quickly. Contact the bank immediately if recipient details are wrong.

A consumer international wire sent primarily for personal, family or household purposes may be canceled within 30 minutes of submission for a full refund, including fees. Bank of America’s official page also explains how to report an error within 180 days of the disclosed availability date and which transfer details to provide.

A recall request after the cancellation window is not the same as a guaranteed refund. Never pay a stranger who claims they can reverse a wire.

Timing, weekends and holidays

The 5:00 p.m. Eastern cutoff applies on business days. A wire started after cutoff or on a weekend or bank holiday moves to the next processing day. Domestic transfers typically settle the same business day after processing; international wires generally take one to five business days.
